There were 12 precious stones in the Hoshen, as mentioned in Book of Exodus (28:15-30), representing the twelve tribes of Israel: Ruby, Garnet, Citrine, Blue Topaz, Topaz, Sapphire, Peridot, Onyx, Emerald, Diamond, Amethyst, Aquamarine. Today, the elegant design of the Hoshen makes a beautiful decorative motif throughout Jewish art and jewelry.
